Thursday
Practice round for some of us at Cullen. Sunny day with great views. Buffet dinner in evening chez Watt. Many thanks to Tricia

Friday
A historic day. First round of Ryder Cup + Whitby Golfing Society! Malcolm’s home course of Duff House. A desperate ploy to win? Bob and Frank too good on day! Rain pm. Great to see so may juniors on the course. Seals spotted in river Deveron. Modest alcohol consumption in evening Graham off booze – will it last?!

Saturday
Sunny all day. Frank has steady 36 points to secure trophy. (Steuart has since discovered that he had been having secret lessons. These must be disclosed on future outings). Fun Texas Scramble in afternoon. Won by team of Steaurt, Alan, Malcolm and Peter. Winnings still to be paid.

General
Steuart and Peter as founder members shared their concerns about:- (a) The ever improving standard of golf and (b) The reductions in alcohol consumption which goes against the whole ethos of the Society. Both points to be discussed further!!

2007
Ireland – to be organised by Hadyn and Frank

Thursday
Practice round at Granton

Friday
Drive to Dornoch. Good weather - again - and stunning course. "Up there with the best" according to Rules Guru, Mr Rutter. Handicap Certificate fiasco.

Saturday
Nairn West in sunshine. Another great course + England v Samoa in afternoon.

Sunday
Boat of Garton on way home. Sensational Texas Scramble victory for Frank and Steuart over Alan and John. (Will not record score to avoid embarrassment).

Memories of the weekend
Only six of us but definitely quality. Was Thursday's discussion over dinner the most sensible (or boring) in our 28 years of history? Mining shares, the environment, etc. etc. Hotel shade of former glory but new manager will rectify? Rooms confusion. Warwickshire chicken from Nairnshire!! Saturday wedding - have we ever come across so many drunken hotel guests?
John and Malcolm shared well. Will Graham and Dave be upset? Agreed we should try for single rooms in future. Hadyn now official custodian of the "Dornoch Teddy".

Notes re prizes
Peter has confirmed that his prize was lost several years ago. The "Dornoch Teddy" is the Finlayson prize. Peter gave the Quaich to either Graham or Malcolm to have engraved.

2008
Yorkshire or Lancashire to be organised by Alan

Comments
Thursday
Practice round on Seaton Carew. Good weather, nice enough course but surrounded by industrial plants + noise. Dinner in good Greek restaurant

Friday
Two rounds at Scarborough North. Good course in pleasant surroundings. Enjoyed by all. Dinner in another good restaurant with the best (Latvian) service ever. (Even Malcolm would have given it 10/10!!)

Saturday
Drive to Whitby (where it all started) via the amusement arcades of Scarborough. Quick walk in Whitby before adjourning to the Hart (in nearby Sandsend) for lunch.

Final round on Whitby. Great weather and scenery but disappointing course due to lack of cutting (perhaps due to weather). Excellent restaurant in evening - Café Fish, with eccentric owner/chef.

Memories of the weekend
1. Royal Hotel should be closed down. Geriatric guests, awful rooms (no windows, hangers, furniture, etc.) no note taken of our names, etc. etc. About to be refurbished for £7m. The worst hotel we have stayed in (not Alan's fault).
2. Excellent evening restaurants
3. Fat, unattractive, unhealthy looking locals!
4. Late evening Ryder Cup viewing in Steuart's palatial room.

Notes re prizes
1. Graham has found the quaich
2. Dave was given the Yates Prize (in substitution) with John retaining the Caribbean shirt!
3. Haydn departed with the Finlayson Prize (Dornoch teddy) obviously having anticipated winning this!

2009
2009 Ireland (Cork area) to be organised by Frank/Robin.
Weekend of 18/21 September. Agreed we should in the future
stay in budget hotels and eat out.

Thursday
Early morning flight to Belfast. Minibus hire from airport . Graham, nominated driver, having problems with gear changing en route to city centre. Breakfast at hotel – except for Graham + Frank who were busy organising replacement bus as original broke down at car park ! Drive to Malone GC . Good course and ok weather. Serious handicap discussion at lunch. Frank not amused as playing off WGS handicap of 9 ! WGS handicap takes no account of club handicap movements during the year. However we had followed previous year’s policy. Pre dinner drinks at the world famous Crown bar along the road – one of the great bars , with cubicles ! Dinner at Made in Belfast – great restaurant . Some adjourned again to the Crown post meal.

Friday
Drive to Clandeboye . Course ok. Weather cloudy but dry. Played Dufferin course in the morning and a texas scramble over 13 holes of the Ava course in the afternoon. Crown bar again in the evening and dinner at Deanes . We thought we had booked Deanes Deli but ended up in Deanes itself – one of Belfast’s smartest restaurants . Definitely the most expensive dinner in our 30 years ! Nouvelle cuisine – the words ‘ off ’ and ‘rip’ spring to mind. Four of those present had iPhones and some persisted in using them more than others Frank, much to the displeasure of John .

Saturday
Drive to the Hilton hotel at Templepatrick . Rain on way there. Nice resort hotel . rain cleared before tee off and we played in sunshine off the medal tees. Good course in nice surroundings – but long . Haydn just managed to hold off a late challenge by Frank . Prize giving in the sun outside on the balcony . The Crown again for drinks where we meet a soldier serving in Afghanistan – and his wife , in town without the kids for a night out ! A very humbling conversation with a lovely couple for half an hour. Ginger’s for dinner and guess where afterwards.

Memories of the weekend
Another great outing. Have we really been going for 30 years? We love Ireland , the people , pubs etc , even security at the airport where John was spotted hugging one of the girls . Well done Graham for continuing to stay off the booze – and climbing up the leader board as a result !

2010

East Lothian , Scotland – Archerfield ( Robin a member) Gullane , North Berwick.
Robin to organise . Agreed that as most have now retired and it is difficult to book courses on Saturday , the outing should be from Wednesday to Saturday . Date will therefore be from 15 to 18 September
