Thursday:Rendezvous Guinness Dublin airport. DC10 to Shannon. Kerry would have been better. Rush from Shannon to Tralee. Late for Tee-off - last few holes abandoned. Arrive 9.30pm. Meet "Mr. Eviston"

Friday:Dry/Misty. Good golf - clubhouse at Killarney, Bob set the pace. Dinner at Dingley Restaurant. New boy Frank disgraces himself and falls asleep. Hotel jumping.

Saturday:5.00am start. Drive to Ballybunion. Tee-off at dawn. Freezing cold but shirt sleeves at end. Wonderful weather and course. Lunch outside on terrace. Drive to Shannon for flight home.

Verdict Superb trip. Ireland every two years?

Thursday:Meet at Blue Bell Hotel. Welcome to Alan F. (did he know what he was in for??). Perfect weather for the practice round at Bamburgh. Beers outside.

Friday:Grey day at Dunstanburgh. Green keepers at work during play! Lunch outside. 5 pointer for Bob. Average course. Some stockmarket advice from the recent intake, given during round. Misguided - of course.

Saturday:Bussed to Kelso. Very misty. Beautiful course. Lunch in private suite plus Ryder Cup. Buggies taken (a sign of aging membership). Pub before dinner. Jokes, pub, etc. after dinner (see photo's) Locked out after pub. Trouble. Photo's developed - Even bigger trouble!

Comments:

Met for lunch at Grantown. Beautiful day. Frank scores 38 and wins money. Pre-dinner drinks at 7.00pm. Genial host Gavin, super efficient. Donna, Bombay Gin. Private Dining Room. Graham asleep later.

Friday. Misty a.m. (the 1st at Forres is always grey!) Course average. Record scores in first round - Alan 44 points, Malcolm 43. Name confusion in evening (and indeed for the next two days) Malcolm/Campbell. Alan's e-mail jokes read out and many not finished (Tarzan!) Frank asleep. Excellent cigars.

Saturday Elgin a.m. - pouring. Cinema appeared likely in afternoon but rain relented. Alan storms home by a record margin. Another great dinner and prize giving.

Competition result:

Alan Hunter 150 points
Malcolm Watt 130
Peter Yates 122
Frank Porter 121
Campbell Watson 110
Robin Finlayson 109
Graham Scott 109
Steuart Howie 100

Revised handicaps following competition:
Alan - 10, Malcolm - 17, Peter - 18, Frank - 14, Campbell - 28,

Campbell & Robin: self appointed handicap committee for unilaterally reducing Alan's handicap to 10.

COMMENTS:
ThursdayFirst Guiness at Dublin Airport. Very wet p.m. Only nine holes. Dingles full so recommended Coopers. Very good. Folk singing at Eviston House as good as ever.

Friday. Wet at Ring of Kerry. Usual Friday morning: Bank of Scotland bid for Nat.West; fire in Steuart's office; Frank checking on share price throughout round! Sunny late morning, beautiful course. One hour to Waterville for afternoon round. Great course and clubhouse. Turned right instead of left on way home, therefore journey through mountains! Peter and Steuart's navigation questioned. Dingles at night. Jerry remembered us. Free Rioja and malt - Dangerous. Difficulty walking; Peter freely admits to never having been so p---ed! What a day!

Saturday Leisurely round at Killarney. Five hours! Ryder Cup in hotel bar. Dingles again!

Sunday 5.30am wake up. 6.00am departure to Waterville; 7.40 Tee off. Worth it as course quiet. Bloody Marys and breakfast for lunch. Then back to Kerry Airport.
