Nairn

Nairn is one of Scotland's great links courses and yet one of its best kept secrets. Set among great strands of whin and heather, alongside the Moray Firth, there are spectacular views across the water to the Black Isle and Easter Ross to the north and the mountains to the west. It is a magnificent challenge, with wonderful putting greens as firm and as fast as will be found anywhere. Tight fairways, with massive gorse bushes hard by many of them, put a high premium on straight driving and, like St Andrews, the wind can be fickle, blowing into the player's face on the way out and promptly changing direction completely just as he gets to the turn for the long road home.

Andrew Simpson laid out the original course in 1887 which was then extended to a plan of old Tom Morris. The present layout owes most to James Braid who made major improvements and created a course which hosts many important championships.
